Ever spend so much time figuring out how to go about doing something that you get no work done at all? If this sounds like you, read this quote from actor Bruce Lee. You want to make sure you do the best job when completing an assignment, but if you spend too much time thinking about how to go about doing it, you won’t get anything done at all.
The second half of the quote says, “Make at least one definite move daily toward your goal.” Take the assignment one step at a time so you do not get overwhelmed. It’s better to complete one piece at a time than it is to make no progress at all throughout the day.
“You’ve got to get up every morning with determination if you’re going to go to bed with satisfaction.”
This quote from American journalist George Lorimer talks about being satisfied with your work output. Someone who is determined to do a good job at the start of the workday will typically be more satisfied when the day concludes. If you don’t go into work with the mindset to do the best work you can, you probably won’t be happy with your output when the day ends.
Go into your job each day with a plan, and stick to that plan so you can get as much work done as possible. This will make you a lot happier when you go to bed at night.

If you have a pessimistic personality, it will be a lot harder for you to get a lot of work done. This quote from Winston Churchill refers to pessimistic people who lack confidence in their work. Since they have no faith in their work, they view even the simplest tasks as challenging endeavors. This can put a damper on your productivity levels.
It’s not always easy to be optimistic about what you are working on, but you should try to have a little optimism. When you are proud of the work you are putting out, you will have the confidence to do more in a shorter amount of time.
“The highest reward for man’s toil is not what he gets for it, but what he becomes by it.”
Putting a good amount of effort into your work will get you a lot more than just praise from your superiors. This quote comes from English critic John Ruskin, and explains that the best reward a person gets from working hard is the experience and knowledge you gain from it. Lots of people tend to forget this, since they are more concerned with getting praise or a reward for doing a particularly hard task.
For example, many students are focused on getting good grades, rather than gaining knowledge. Even if you put a lot of work into an assignment, it may still be criticized. Don’t get discouraged by this.
Through hard work and critiques, you can learn new things. With this newfound knowledge, you can do a better job next time, and continue to better yourself.

A contributing factor to the loss of motivation at work is the fear of failing. People are afraid that the work they put out will be poorly received, and will be hesitant to work hard on it. This quote from Orson Scott Card’s novel Ender’s Game shows that you should not be afraid of failure, and you should continue to work the hardest you can.
If you did your best at something and failed, you can use the experience to better yourself and refine your skills. In addition, failing to take advantage of a big opportunity due to a lack of confidence could end up costing you way more than simply failing at a task. Failure is only your fault when you don’t give it your all.
