How To Keep Your Resolutions This Year

Last month, we asked you: “What area of your life are you hoping to improve most in 2026?” The majority of you said health and wellness: a goal that’s both common and commendable. But the truth is, any resolution you set deserves the time, care, and consistency it takes to succeed. Whether you’re aiming to move more, save smarter, learn something new, or simply feel better, here’s how to stick with it past January.

1. Be Specific About Your Goals

“Get healthier” sounds great, but it’s hard to measure. Instead, try narrowing it down: Drink 64 oz. of water daily, walk 30 minutes five times a week, or pack up lunch three days a week. The more specific your resolution, the easier it is to track and stick to.

2. Start Small and Build

Big changes don’t happen overnight. Focus on small, repeatable actions that build momentum. Starting with one or two manageable habits increases your chance of success, and helps prevent burnout or all-or-nothing thinking.

3. Make It Part of Your Routine

Want your resolution to last? Tie it to something you already do. For example, stretch for 5 minutes after brushing your teeth, or review your budget every Friday after work. These “habit hooks” make your goals easier to maintain without having to reinvent your schedule.

4. Track Progress (Not Perfection)

Progress isn’t always linear, and that’s okay. Celebrate wins, even small ones, and don’t let one off day derail your entire goal. Use a journal, app, calendar, or checklist to visualize how far you’ve come.

5. Revisit, Reset, Repeat

Check in with yourself monthly. Is your goal still realistic? Are there adjustments you need to make? Resolutions aren’t set in stone, they’re meant to grow with you. Give yourself permission to evolve your goal instead of abandoning it altogether.

No matter what you’re working on in 2026, remember: progress is powerful, consistency is key, and you’re not in it alone.
