It was only a few months ago that the sun might have been setting on your way home from work. Summer is finally here, and with that comes an opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors, even after a long day at the office. While some of the activities below might be no brainers, some are ones you may not have thought of. Here are a few ways you can enjoy those long summer evenings, while getting in some exercise.
Biking
A bike ride after work can help increase your muscles, joint mobility, and decrease stress levels. Whether it’s something as simple as going around the neighborhood, or taking a ride to a reservoir or other scenic lookout, this is a great habit to get into.
Kayaking
No need for the rowing machine at your local gym. Depending on where you live, you can most likely find somewhere to kayak. If you have a friend that kayaks, check with them to see what type of kayak best fits you.
Basketball
A pickup game of hoops can be as long or as short as you’d like. Schedule one night each week to visit your local park for some friendly competition.
Tennis
After dinner, grab a partner and head down to your local tennis court. Since most tennis courts have lights, you can continue your game late into the night.
Surfing
Enjoy a different type of rush hour. If you are lucky enough to work near a beach, bring your board with you to work.
Fishing
While this is not as strenuous as an activity as others listed, it’s a great thing to do while it’s light out later in the evening. Take a look at local fishing reports for your area, and bring some friends or family along with you. This can make memories for years to come, and maybe even dinner!
Healthy Living Help: See if the town you live in offers any intramural sports. This can be a great way to meet new people, and enjoy long summer nights playing team sports like volleyball and baseball.
