Last month we asked you to share what inspires you during the winter months. The vast majority of you chose to listen to music as your preferred method, while exercising came in at a close second. If you’re looking for some additional ways to think outside of the box and make the most of the winter season, we have some helpful tips to get you started.
Have an Idea Book
A great way to spark creativity is to keep an idea book nearby where you can put all your thoughts on paper. This will allow you to reference the book when you’re looking for innovative solutions or brainstorming for future projects. That said, an idea book doesn’t need to be limited to just ideas, you can also include anything that inspires you, from advice and observations to drawings and quotes.
Make Your Workspace Your Sanctuary
Whether you work from home or at the office, your workspace is likely where you’ll be hoping to think outside of the box and come up with creative solutions quickly. While you may not be able to make any major changes, particularly in a commercial office space, you can introduce some throw blankets, artwork, photos, plants, and other personal touches that can make you feel more comfortable and creative while working.
Practice Self-Care
A key component of being able to think creatively is to be relaxed. Sometimes in the winter months, self-care is put on the backburner. The first step is to define what self-care means for you. For some people it may mean enjoying a nice cup of coffee or tea in the morning, and for others, it could mean watching an old favorite movie. Once you’ve decided your preferred way to unwind, dedicate some time to relax each day. This will allow you to unwind, decompress, and return to your work with a renewed sense of creative energy and determination.
Have Some Fun
A great way to make the most of the cold weather months is to have some fun! A few ideas are hosting an employee game day with trivia and charades or a “Hot Chocolate Happy Hour” in the breakroom where people can make hot cocoa and get to know their team members. No matter how you choose to create some fun in the winter months, finding new and innovative ways to bond with your colleagues is a great way to think outside of the box, get creative, and have fun in the process.
