Homemade Mother’s Day Gifts

Looking for creative gift ideas for Mother’s Day? In a study conducted by CreditDonkey, something homemade was the top gift request last year. Here are some things that you can make from scratch for mom!

Floral Bracelets

If your mother loves to wear accessories, then this floral bracelet is perfect for her to wear throughout the summer. Since this project uses fresh flowers, don’t make it until a few days before Mother’s Day.

Time Needed: 20 to 30 minutes

What You’ll Need:

  • 20 floral blooms of your choice (lilies, tulips, and roses are great choices)
  • Floral wire
  • Floral tape
  • Scissors

Instructions:

  1. Cut the leaves off of your blooms. Leave about 2 to 3 inches of the stem.
  2. Cut 30 inches of floral wire.
  3. Form it into a circle large enough to fit on your mom’s wrist. Wrap the wire around a few times to strengthen and secure the bracelet.
  4. Attach the blooms to the wire.
  5. Cut about 6 inches of floral tape, hold a stem against the wire, and wrap the tape around the stem and wire, keeping the blooms close together. Trim stems if needed.
  6. At this point, you can add a special tag to say “Happy Mother’s Day!”

Last Minute Ideas

Looking for something to do last-minute? Grab a wooden spatula or large fork and give mom something that’ll pop out in her utensil drawer! To preserve the colors, ensure that these do not go into the dishwasher.

Time Needed: 25 minutes

What You’ll Need:

  • Wooden Utensil
  • Craft paint
  • Paint tray
  • Painter’s tape
  • Foam paintbrush
  • Food-safe shellac and sealer

Instructions:

  1. Determine where you want the color to end. Use painter’s tape to make your marks. If you are using multiple colors, make multiple lines with the tape.
  2. Use a foam brush to apply the craft paint to the handle of each utensil.
  3. Dry each utensil in an upright container. Add additional coats if necessary.
  4. Apply a high-gloss, food-safe shellac and sealer to give the handle an enameled look. Let it dry before removing the tape.
  5. Once everything dries, handwash the utensil.

Painted Daisy Mason Jar Vases

If your mother loves having flowers around the house, give her a pretty vase! This easy-to-do craft only requires a few things and will come out great!

Time Needed: 30 minutes

What You’ll Need:

  • Teal acrylic paint in a matte finish
  • White paint
  • Clear matte finish spray
  • Yellow high gloss paint
  • 80 grit sandpaper
  • Gloss enamel craft paint
  • Small, pointed paintbrush
  • Large paintbrush

Instructions:

  1. Paint your jar with three coats of teal acrylic paint. You can brighten darker spots by using some white paint.
  2. Distress the jar with 80 grit sandpaper.
  3. Use the gloss enamel craft paint and a small brush to paint the daisy petals. You can paint six by starting on the outside edge and working towards the center. You may create as many daisies as you want.
  4. Paint the center of each daisy with your yellow high gloss paint and a small brush. Let your jar dry once you finish creating yellow centers for each daisy.
  5. Spray the jar with a clear matte.

Rock Bath Mat

Bring the feel of nature or the spa right to mom’s bathroom! Make sure that the stones that you use are porous; otherwise, the water may clog up inside the mat. If your mat has a textured pattern, you’ll want to place the rocks on the “flat” side.

Time Needed: 25 minutes

What You’ll Need:

  • Outdoor rubber mat
  • Clear waterproof silicone sealer
  • 50 smooth stones (can be store bought or natural)

Instructions:

  1. Lay out a plastic drop cloth or old shower curtain over your work area.
  2. Arrange your stones on the mat. Ensure that you have enough to cover the entire mat. Place the largest stones over the holes in the mat.
  3. Once they are all arranged, squeeze out a small dab of sealer onto each stone. Place it back on the mat.
  4. Wait about one day before moving the mat from its current spot.
