For many of us, even if you love your job, there can be plenty of stressful days. So how can you feel happy at work more often? Much like working out and adopting a healthier lifestyle, happiness takes practice. Here are some simple tips to make each workday a good day.
Start Your Day with Gratitude
The morning is your opportunity to set the tone for the rest of your day, so make sure you do something that brings you peace and makes you happy. Try to spend a few extra minutes enjoying your morning cup of coffee or tea, or take a few seconds to pause and enjoy a quiet moment. Another idea is to get some fresh air first thing. Going for a light walk around the block, rain or shine, can help awaken your senses and help you start your day on a productive note.
Remove Unnecessary Stress
A great way to remove unnecessary stress in your day is to minimize the number of decisions you have to make. A helpful way to do that is to plan meals ahead of time. Or, take a note from Steve Jobs and keep your outfits similar and/or pre-planned throughout the week. Although it may sound strange, removing some of the decisions you must make throughout the day can have a significant impact on your stress levels and your overall happiness at work.
Help a Colleague
Helping others can make you feel happier, even if it’s something small. Grab your coworker’s favorite beverage when you get your coffee, or get them some cool new office supplies they can keep at their desk. As some of us continue to shelter-in-place, consider sending your coworkers a nice message letting them know you’re thinking of them. Not only will you brighten someone else’s day, you will make yours a happier and more positive day as well.
End Your Day with Gratitude
Much like how you begin your day, you can end your workday with a moment of gratitude. The best way to do this is to think of something you appreciated throughout the day and write it down. Many studies have shown that this significantly increases optimism and feeling good about your life.
As many of us continue to work from home, using these simple tips throughout your day could be exactly what you need to make happiness and positivity a priority through this tumultuous time.
