Winter Team-Building Activities

It’s officially winter, and while it may be too chilly to spend time having fun outdoors, there are still plenty of creative ways to bond as a team throughout the winter season. Here are a few winter team-building activities that can help improve everything from employee happiness and collaboration to productivity.

Donate to Charity

Just because the holidays end after December doesn’t mean that the giving season has to stop! Keep giving back all winter long by participating in charity team-building activities such as a bike build-athon (where you decorate bikes and donate them to children in need) or a school supplies scramble where you compete in teams to win different office supplies and fill backpacks for students in need. Not only will this help you bond with your colleagues, but it will show every employee that the organization cares about the community and giving back.

Hold Employee-Led Fitness Classes

A great way to bond with your colleagues and get to know them better is to start holding employee-led fitness classes. Perhaps one of your colleagues is great at Karate or another is a pro at Yoga. By giving employees the opportunity to teach their coworkers something new, they will be able to view themselves as a leader in the organization no matter what their job title is and will feel more confident at work.

Partake in Winter Activities

While it can be tempting to stay indoors, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the cold weather months with your colleagues. If you live somewhere with snow, consider planning a company-wide ski trip to a nearby mountain or finding a local park where everyone can go sledding and enjoy some hot cocoa or coffee. By spending time outside of the office with your coworkers, you’ll be able to get to know them on a more personal level and will return to work with a renewed sense of focus and determination.

Be Open to Suggestions

A great way to hear from every employee about activities they’d like to participate in is to place a suggestion box in the breakroom of the office where people can share different ideas. After a week or two, hold a company-wide meeting where you go through the suggestions and people vote on which ideas they like best. This way, the majority of the team will be pleased and excited with the activity chosen and will feel like the organization values their opinions.
