In this technological age, it can be challenging to find a proper work-life balance. Beyond taking those much deserved vacation days (which fewer and fewer Americans do) it’s also important to implement some strategies for a healthy balance into your daily routine.
To stay productive and on top of your game, schedule some personal time to reset and recharge. Whether that’s going to the gym, meditating for 20 minutes or cooking a delicious meal, dedicating time to focus on yourself is an important component to being productive at work. If you can’t sneak away, try finding a quiet place in the breakroom or going for a five minute walk to take a moment away from the hustle and bustle of your work environment.
It’s easy to say yes to every event or project, but you’ll inevitably spread yourself too thin. Instead, focus on accepting the tasks which you feel most passionately about or the events where your presence can make the most positive impact. In doing so, you’ll be able to complete your work more successfully rather than struggling to put enough time and attention into everything.
Perhaps the biggest challenge is creating boundaries between your work and home life. It can be difficult to not take your laptop to bed with you or continue working while eating dinner with friends or family. Making some rules for when and where you complete your work and when you’ll instead choose to be in the moment will allow your time in the office to be more productive and your time at home to be far more enjoyable.
Implement these healthy balance strategies and watch your world transform. As Philip Green said, “It’s all about quality of life and finding a happy balance between work and friends and family.”
