Last month we asked you to share what your main priorities were for the new year. The overwhelming majority of you chose spending time with family and friends and exercising more, while the minority chose learning a new skill. Regardless of what your resolutions are, we’ve come up with some helpful tips that will help you stay on track.
Check Your Progress
Make a point to check in with yourself at the start of each week, setting micro goals that will help you achieve your main resolution for the New Year. For example, if you set the intention to get healthy this year, you can create attainable goals each week that can help you get there, like walking a mile each day or eating your recommended amount of vegetables. This will give you a way to measure your progress over time and increase your likelihood for success.
Keep a Resolution Journal
If you have trouble sticking to your goals, reminding yourself why you set your goals in the first place, can be tremendously helpful in ensuring you stay on the right track. Consider keeping a resolution journal and pencil nearby and writing in it a few times a week to detail your struggles and triumphs. Not only will you be inspired by your progress, but you’ll be able to motivate yourself to keep reaching for more goals as well.
Be Patient
Remember, change doesn’t happen overnight. As you work towards accomplishing your resolutions this year, it’s important to remain patient with yourself. It’s likely that you’ll falter on your goals from time to time, and while that’s disappointing, remaining confident in your ability to move forward in the pursuit of your resolutions is paramount to your overall success.
Keep these tips in mind as you maintain your resolutions throughout the year.
